In the city of Gomel, Belarus, Anna Shaets has been given a unique opportunity. Daily, she is able to minister for the Lord in the Oncology Center of a large hospital. Opportunities to visit patients before and after surgeries abound.
Because of her ability to share the "gift" of mercy and compassion, as well as provide some basic items for personal care, the administration of the hospital has provided Anna with her own room for ministry. In this room Anna has accumulated a library of quality spiritual material. As patients come to visit her, Anna invites her visitors to sit with her around the table, enjoy some fruit and a hot beverage. Then, she freely shares the good news of salvation and provides Christian literature to any of her guests who desire to know more about Jesus Christ.
At times, Anna travels through the chemotherapy unit, providing special edible treats for the patients who welcome her in their rooms. As the conversations turn to serious matters, Anna is able to share her testimony of salvation in Christ. Afterward, many ask her to pray for them, especially concerning their physical ailments. Anna is also grateful that she is given the privilege of visiting many patients who have very little time left to live.
As some patients are healed of their illness, they invite Anna to their homes to continue the relationships that are built in the hospital. These visits allow Anna the ability to continue to provide assistance both physically and spiritually.
Anna Shaets has been serving the Lord with Slavic Missionary Service since 1991 in the city of Gomel, the second largest city of Belarus. (Minsk, the capital, is the largest city.) Anna is so grateful for the time that she is able to spend with each individual. Many express gratitude for her selfless character and her spiritual compassion. Pray that God will help her to offer hope and assurance to any patients who will listen to her words of wisdom and witness her deeds of mercy.
