tim&evMikhail Gorbachev wrote Leonovich: "Remembering our meeting in the Kremlin, I am once again convinced that tyranny and violence in regard to the individual are powerless in the face of a spiritual force. As long as our country is capable of giving birth to children and future adults such as you - that nation is immortal." The People's Friendship University in Moscow, rated number three among educational institutions in the C.I.S., awarded Alex the first honorary doctorate degree to be given a foreigner. The degree was in the field of religion and philosophy.

Concerning this honor, Anatoliy Krasikov, professor at Lomonosov Moscow University and director of the Press-Office of the President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, wrote: "Dear Alexei Pavlovich: From the depths of my heart I congratulate you on receiving the title of "Honorary Doctor" from Friendship University. You are the first individual to receive an honorary doctorate from one of the most prestigious schools of higher learning in Moscow, and I am sincerely glad that you have earned high recognition for the multifaceted activities youhave undertaken for the spiritual enlightenment of the people. Russia has fully understood the fact that under her skies, as well as in distant America, you are a brilliant follower of the Testament of Christ, for whom 'there is no Greek nor Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all' Col. 3:11)."

Alex Leonovich continues as Executive Director of Slavic Missionary Service, which has reached the more than 350 million Slavic people worldwide since it’s inception in 1933.
